Connect DigitalOcean
DigitalOcean has the simplest console of the six providers DotDeployer supports, and the most US regions. Basic Droplets start at $6/month for 1 vCPU / 1 GB RAM / 25 GB SSD.
What you need: a DigitalOcean account and a Personal Access Token with read/write scope, from API → Tokens.
Steps:
- In the DigitalOcean control panel, go to API → Tokens and generate a Personal Access Token.
- In DotDeployer, go to Settings → Providers, choose DigitalOcean, and paste the token in. It’s encrypted before it’s stored.
- From Servers, click “Create server,” pick DigitalOcean, and choose a size and region from DigitalOcean’s live list — New York, San Francisco, Toronto, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Singapore, Bangalore or Sydney.
- Add your first site from a GitHub repo — DotDeployer provisions the Droplet and deploys it.
Billing: the Droplet is created in your own DigitalOcean account and billed to you directly.
Token scope: DotDeployer only ever calls the Droplet-management endpoints it needs, whatever scope you grant the token when you create it. It’s encrypted at rest.
Already have a Droplet? DotDeployer’s DigitalOcean connection provisions new Droplets. For a server it didn’t create itself, connect it as Custom VPS instead — give DotDeployer the Droplet’s IP and root SSH access and it bootstraps it the same way.
Once connected, DigitalOcean behaves exactly like every other provider in DotDeployer: the same Servers table, the same site tabs, the same deploy and rollback flow.
